Good News Baptist Church
History
Serving the Cincinnati, Ohio Community since 1987
The Good News Baptist Church originated from the vision of Pastor Jerome Byrd, who at that time was still a seminary student at Louisville, Kentucky. Upon graduation he ignored the lucrative offers to minister elsewhere which guaranteed a nice salary, an office and other added financial perks. Instead, he and his wife, Carolyn, (affectionately known as “CJ”) were led by God to return with his vision to Mt. Healthy, Ohio and begin organizing a new church.
Pastor Byrd consulted with the state convention, and our sponsoring church, Mt. Carmel Baptist Church located in Kenwood, Ohio. After canvassing Mt. Healthy and spreading the news of a new church coming to the area, Pastor Byrd and “CJ” located a place to hold services. On June 21, 1987 Pastor Byrd and four other seminary students held the first worship service at Rex Ralph Elementary School in Mt. Healthy under the name of Good News Baptist Chapel. That name was suggested by one of its founders, Ed Bratchette and adopted by the members. A few years later, the name was changed to The Good News Baptist Church
We remained at the school gymnasium in Rex Ralph until spring 1995. Good News relocated a few blocks away to Duvall Elementary School for Sunday worship. The ministries, and group meetings were held in the homes of members who volunteered to host the gathering. Most of those meetings included a delicious assortment of food and refreshments.
In August, 1997 God provided us with our first church building, which is our current location at 3473 Niagara Street in Cincinnati, Ohio 45251, which is in Colerain Township.
We welcome all visitors at Good News. We are a church family devoted to teaching the bible and living the bible by serving our community.
Founding Members
So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone, in whom the whole structure, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord. In him you also are being built together into a dweling place for God Spirit. (Ephesians 2:19)
